How to Order Replacement Hubs or Hub and Drums
To order the correct hub or hub and drum, the following steps can be used to simplify the ordering process:
  1. Determine the bolt pattern of the hub. Match wheels to hubs by the number of bolts and bolt circle. To determine the bolt circle on hubs with an even number of bolts measure centre to centre on bolt directly across from each other on the diameter. (Example: 8 on 6 1/2 would mean 8 bolts with 6 1/2" center to centre diameter) On an odd number bolt hub, measure any bolt centre to the point halfway between bolts on the diameter. (Example: 5 on 4 1/2 would mean 5 bolts with 4 1/2" measure to a point halfway between opposite bolts)
  2. Determine the inner and outer bearing numbers. Note whether the bearings are grease or oil baths.
  3. Measure the I.D. and O.D. of the seal or note seal part number.
  4. Verify the stud number.
  5. If the axle is a braking axle, measure the diameter and width of the brake to determine brake size.
  6. Look for any casting numbers on the hub or hub and drum.
  7. On heavier axles such as 8,000 lb or 9,000 lb axles, you need to determine the hub pilot diameter. This can be determined by measuring the centre hole of the wheel.
  8. On 8,000 lb and larger axles, determine if it is equipped with ABS, and requires a drum or rotor with an ABS exiciter ring installed.
